Thematic Thursday

I've been wanting to find time to link up with my buddy Carla's weekly Thematic Thursday link up, and this week, I finally did!

Woot!

Winter Themed Books

This story is a great reminder of how we should embrace our differences and take hold of what truly makes us unique individuals.  Pink! is a story that is a penguin twist on The Bad Case of Stripes and Imogene's Antlers.  Patrick wakes up one morning and discovers he is pink... a pink boy penguin!  He goes on quite an adventure to discover his true self.

This story was one that I discovered while student teaching.  Ever wonder what would happen if you were snowed in at school?  The students at Pokeweed Public School get the chance to find out!

My students are usually pretty shocked to think that this could happen (you have to look at all the students' expressions while reading the book...it IS hilarious to see the range of expressions... panic, shock, mischievousness...) makes a good reading response activity as well!

Now who doesn't love Skippyjon Jones?  My daughters love his stories, songs, and crazy "Chihuahua" antics!  If you are a fan of the series of books, you'll love this snowy themed book.

Si, mis perritos??
Thematic Thursday
I found all of these activities on Pinterest a few years ago and have used them in my classroom with my students.

The first activity is one my grade level has done for our display case and bulletin board in January.  It's a favorite on Pinterest and I'm sure you've seen it.  The pictures are ones that my students make themselves.  We call them Snow Screamers.

These are the screamers minus the snowflakes.  The students really enjoyed creating these and hope they are able to eat some snowflakes this winter as well!

This is a cute writing activity from Just Add Clipart's blog that I pinned a few years ago.  Students are to create their own unique snowman and then write clues to help their classmates find their lost snowman.  It's a great activity for focusing on detail and adjectives!  Click on the picture or the link to the blog to get this free writing activity.  There is also a template for the snowman.

If you read the book Pink! that I featured above, here is a cute craftivity to go along with it.  The idea is from First Grader...at Last!  I do like her suggestion of putting these up toward the end of January because they can last through February for Valentine's Day!  Click the photo or the blog link to get her freebie as well!

Be sure to enter Carla's wintery giveaway...lots of great winter themed activities!  Be sure and check out all the other link ups and her winter themed pinterest board!
